Osteopathy in Brixton

Got aches and pains that just won't shift? Or maybe you've been told your problem is 'just one of those things' and you're not quite ready to accept that?

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to health that works with your muscles, joints, and connective tissue to release tension, restore movement, and support your body's natural ability to recover. Our osteopaths treat a wide range of physical complaints, from back and neck pain to headaches, postural strain, and sports injuries. We also offer specialist osteopathic treatments, including cranial osteopathy, paediatric care, and pregnancy support, all of which you can explore below.

What can Osteopathy help with?

Osteopathy can help with a broader range of complaints than many people realise. Because it looks at the body as a whole rather than just the area that hurts, its effects can be far-reaching.

  • Back pain: one of the most common reasons people come to see us; osteopathy may help reduce pain, restore movement, and address some of the underlying causes of recurring problems
  • Neck pain and stiffness: including pain that refers into the shoulders or down the arms
  • Shoulder problems: frozen shoulder, rotator cuff issues, and general shoulder and upper arm pain may all respond well to osteopathic treatment
  • Headaches: musculoskeletal tension in the neck and upper back is a common trigger, and hands-on work can help reduce both frequency and severity
  • Sciatica and nerve pain: gentle work on the spine and surrounding tissues may help relieve compression and ease pain that refers into the leg
  • Hip and knee pain: joint stiffness and muscle tension in these areas can often be eased through osteopathy, particularly where posture or movement patterns are a contributing factor
  • Sports injuries: whether acute or longstanding, osteopathy can support recovery and help identify movement habits that may be slowing things down
  • Postural strain: from desk work, repetitive tasks, or simply the physical habits of daily life
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort: pelvic pain, lower back ache, and the general physical strain of a growing body; osteopathy is safe throughout pregnancy

Meet our Osteopathic Team

All of our osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), the UK's regulatory body for the profession. GOsC registration is a legal requirement to practise as an osteopath in the UK, so you can be confident that every member of our team has met rigorous standards of training, safety, and professional conduct. Many hold Master's degrees in osteopathy and bring additional specialist experience in areas including cranial osteopathy, paediatrics, sports, and pregnancy care.

Ready to book your appointment?

We offer a range of treatments to help you feel your best. Book online,
call us or visit our centre to schedule your appointment.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing you can move in; your osteopath may ask you to remove outer layers to assess your posture and movement
  • Your appointment starts with a conversation about your health history and what's brought you in; the more context you can give, the better
  • After the consultation, your osteopath will carry out a physical assessment, come to a diagnosis, and then move into treatment; techniques can range from gentle soft tissue work and joint mobilisation to more subtle cranial approaches, depending on what's right for you
  • Most people feel some improvement after their first session, though it's not unusual to feel a little tender or tired for a day or two afterwards; this is a normal response and settles quickly
  • Before you leave, your osteopath will talk you through what they found and what they'd suggest for follow-up

Your Osteopathy Questions Answered

How many sessions will I need?

There's no single answer, and we'll always be honest with you about this. For something straightforward and recent, a couple of sessions may be enough. For older or more complex problems, a short course is usually more effective. Your osteopath will give you a realistic picture after the first appointment and won't recommend more sessions than they genuinely think will help.

I'm not sure which type of osteopathy I need. How do I choose?

Standard osteopathy is a great starting point if you're not sure. Your osteopath will carry out a full assessment at your first appointment and, if they think a more specialist approach would suit you better, they'll talk you through the options. You can also explore the specialist pages above to get a sense of what might be most relevant.

Is Osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Osteopathy is safe throughout pregnancy and several of our osteopaths have specialist training in pregnancy care. Treatment is adapted for each stage of pregnancy, with a focus on easing pelvic and lower back pain and supporting your comfort as your body changes. We have a dedicated page on pregnancy osteopathy with more detail if you'd like to find out more.

Will it be painful?

It shouldn't be. Some techniques involve gentle pressure that might feel momentarily uncomfortable, particularly around sensitive areas, but your osteopath will always check in with you and adapt the treatment to suit you. It's normal to feel a little sore or tired for a day or two after your first session, especially if you're coming in with a longstanding problem. This settles quickly.

Should I wait until it gets worse?

We hear this all the time: "It's not that bad yet, I'll see how it goes." The truth? Muscle and joint pain doesn't usually resolve the way a cut or bruise does. The longer compensation patterns continue, the harder they can be to correct. Early treatment often means: fewer sessions overall, faster recovery, lower risk of chronic issues, better long-term mobility. Prevention is always easier than cure.
