Women's Health Hub

How often do women's health concerns get met with a prescription and not much else?

Or worse, told that what you are experiencing is just part of being a woman. Period pain, hormonal shifts, pelvic problems, the physical toll of pregnancy and birth. These are real conditions with real causes, and too many women spend years managing symptoms rather than getting to the bottom of them.

At Brixton Therapy Centre, we think that is worth doing something about. We work with a range of conditions that primarily or solely affect women, and we take them seriously. That means listening properly, looking at the whole picture, and treating the body as the connected system it is, not just addressing the symptom in front of us.

How we approach women's health

Our practitioners are trained in disciplines that are built on whole-body thinking. An osteopath treating pelvic pain will not just look at the pelvis. They will look at how you move, how your spine is functioning, how your posture has adapted over time, and what else might be contributing. An acupuncturist works from the principle that the body's systems are deeply interconnected. A hormonal imbalance, a digestive issue, and disrupted sleep might all be part of the same picture, and treating one often helps the others.

This matters particularly for conditions that affect women, because so many of them are not straightforward. Endometriosis takes an average of eight years to diagnose. Pelvic floor problems are routinely dismissed as an inevitable consequence of having children. Perimenopausal symptoms are often attributed to stress or anxiety rather than hormonal change. We are not here to replace your GP or your specialist. But we are here to offer something that conventional medicine does not always have time for: a thorough, unhurried assessment of what is actually going on, and a treatment approach that considers the whole of you.

Conditions we commonly treat

Many patients come to us specifically looking for one of the treatments above. But we also see a lot of patients who come in either with a particular symptom or for something else entirely, and find that other aspects of their health that fall under women's health, such as their menstrual cycle or lingering menopausal symptoms, end up being addressed as part of their treatment too. Nothing gets looked at in isolation.

For those who do come in specifically for a women's health concern, here are some of the conditions we see most often:

Frequently asked questions

I am not sure whether my problem counts as a women's health issue. Should I still get in touch?

Yes. The conditions we see most often under women's health are ones that are either unique to women or affect women in significantly different ways. Things like period pain, endometriosis, pelvic floor problems, fertility concerns, and menopausal symptoms. If you are unsure, just call us and we will point you in the right direction.

I have seen my GP and not got anywhere. Is there anything you can actually do?

Quite possibly, yes. Hands-on treatment approaches things differently to conventional medicine. Where a GP might be limited to medication or referrals, an osteopath or acupuncturist can look at the physical, structural, and systemic factors that might be contributing to what you are experiencing. We cannot promise results, but we can promise that you will be properly listened to and thoroughly assessed.

Do I need to know which treatment I need before I book?

No. If you have read through the treatment pages and are still not sure, give us a call on 020 7733 9944 and we will help you work out the best starting point. We would rather help you find the right fit than have you guess.

Still Not Sure?

If you're in pain and wondering whether we can help, that's exactly why we're here. You don't need to know what the problem is. You don't need a referral. You just need to take the first step. Book online today or call 020 7733 9944 to speak to us.
