Children's Treatments

Bringing your child to see a therapist for the first time can feel like quite a big step. You might be wondering whether treatment is right for them, which approach to try, or simply what to expect when you arrive. This page is here to help with all of that.

We work with children and young people across a range of treatments, including osteopathy, massage, and acupuncture. Our practitioners are experienced in adapting their approach for younger patients, and we take care to make every appointment calm, unhurried, and age-appropriate.

Paediatric Osteopathy

Osteopathy for Babies, Children and Young People

Osteopathy is one of the most established treatments we offer for children, from newborns right through to teenagers. Our paediatric osteopaths use gentle, hands-on techniques tailored to each child's age and stage of development.

For babies and younger children, this often means cranial osteopathy, a very light-touch approach that works with the body's own rhythms. For older children and teenagers, treatment may look more similar to adult osteopathy, addressing things like growing pains, postural strain from school bags or screens, and sports injuries.

Massage for Children & Teenagers

We offer massage for children and young people from around 11 years old. As with all our massage treatments, sessions are adapted to suit the individual, and our therapists will always take time to understand what your child needs before they begin.

Massage can be a supportive option for teenagers dealing with muscle tension from sport or growth, postural strain from sitting at desks or using phones, and stress or anxiety. Sessions are gentle and entirely at your child's pace.

Acupuncture for Children and Teenagers

Acupuncture can be a gentle and effective option for older children and teenagers. Our acupuncturists are trained in traditional Chinese medicine and are experienced in working with younger patients, always adapting the treatment to keep it as comfortable as possible.

Many parents are understandably curious about whether acupuncture is suitable for their child. The needles used are very fine, and a good acupuncturist will move at your child's pace throughout, checking in as they go. Some young people adapt to it quickly; others prefer to start with a shorter session to see how they get on.

Acupuncture may be worth exploring for teenagers managing things like headaches, menstrual pain, sleep difficulties, anxiety, or ongoing fatigue. We'd always recommend starting with a consultation so we can understand what your child is experiencing and suggest the most appropriate approach.

Acupuncture is available for children from age 5. As not all of our acupuncturists work with younger patients, please call us to book and we'll make sure your child is matched with the right therapist.

Frequently asked questions

Is treatment safe for children?

Yes. All our practitioners who work with children are appropriately trained and adapt their techniques for younger patients. Our osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council. Our acupuncturists are members of the British Acupuncture Council. Our massage therapists hold recognised professional qualifications and association memberships.

Do I need to stay during the appointment?

For children under 16, we ask that a parent or guardian accompanies them to the first appointment. We will always ask for your consent before any treatment begins and you are expected to stay for the full session.

How do I know which treatment is right for my child?

If you're not sure where to start, that's completely fine. Our reception team can help point you in the right direction, or you can book an initial consultation with one of our osteopaths, who will assess your child and talk through the options with you.

What if my child is nervous?

Our practitioners are used to working with children who are a little apprehensive and will always take things at your child's pace. The first session often involves as much conversation and reassurance as it does hands-on treatment, and there's no pressure to do anything your child isn't comfortable with.

Still Not Sure?

If you're in pain and wondering whether we can help, that's exactly why we're here. You don't need to know what the problem is. You don't need a referral. You just need to take the first step. Book online today or call 020 7733 9944 to speak to us.
