Acupuncture for Women's Health

Hormones shift. Cycles change. Life moves through phases that aren't always easy to navigate.

Traditional acupuncture has a long history of supporting women through exactly that: painful or irregular periods, hormonal imbalances, fertility challenges, pregnancy discomfort, and the transition into menopause. These are just some of the areas we work with. There's a much wider range of conditions our practitioners see every week, from PCOS and endometriosis to stress and hormonal migraines. Every treatment is tailored to your full health picture, not just the symptom in front of us.

How to Book

We list two separate booking options for this treatment on our website. If you are currently pregnant, or looking to prepare for or support labour induction, please choose Acupuncture for Pregnancy including Labour Induction. For everything else, including period problems, fertility support before pregnancy, PCOS, menopause, and hormonal concerns, please choose Acupuncture for Women's Health (not pregnancy). Not all of our practitioners offer pregnancy acupuncture, so selecting the right option makes sure you are matched with the right therapist. Not sure which applies to you? Call us on 020 7733 9944 and we will help.

Ready to book your appointment?

We offer a range of treatments to help you feel your best. Book online,
call us or visit our centre to schedule your appointment.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that gives easy access to your arms, legs, and back where possible.
  • Your first session starts with a consultation. We'll ask about your current symptoms, health history, cycle patterns, and general lifestyle to build a full picture before we begin.
  • We'll then agree on a treatment plan and get started with the acupuncture itself. We place fine, sterile, single-use needles at specific points on your body. Most people find it far less uncomfortable than they expected.
  • You will likely feel a sensation at the needle sites: a dull ache, warmth, or slight tingling. In TCM, this is intentional: it tells your practitioner the point is active. It shouldn't be painful, but do let them know if anything feels too intense.
  • After your session, most people feel deeply relaxed and sometimes pleasantly tired. Give yourself a little time to wind down if you can, and drink plenty of water.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which type of appointment to book?

You will see two booking options on our site: one for pregnancy and labour induction support, and one for all other women's health concerns. If you are currently pregnant or looking to prepare for or support labour induction, choose the pregnancy option. For everything else, including period problems, fertility support before pregnancy, PCOS, menopause, and other hormonal concerns, choose the women's health (not pregnancy) option. If you are still not sure, call us on 020 7733 9944 and we will point you in the right direction.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people are surprised at how comfortable it feels. As the needle passes through the skin, you may notice a brief pinch, but they're very fine (much thinner than those used for injections) and it passes quickly. Once in, you may feel a mild tingling, warmth, or dull ache at the needle site. In East Asian medicine, this sensation is called deqi, and it's a sign the point has been activated. Most people find the whole experience deeply relaxing. If anything feels too intense, just let your practitioner know and they can adjust.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are coming in for and how your body responds. For some concerns, like acute period pain or pregnancy-related discomfort, a handful of sessions can make a real difference. For longer-standing issues such as PCOS or fertility support, a longer course tends to give the best results. Your practitioner will give you a clearer picture after your first appointment, once they have had a chance to properly assess your case.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Yes, when carried out by a qualified practitioner with appropriate training. Pregnancy acupuncture uses specific points that are safe at each stage, and our practitioners who offer it have specialist experience in this area. If you have any questions before booking, please do get in touch.

Should I wait until it gets worse?

We hear this all the time: "It's not that bad yet, I'll see how it goes." The truth? Muscle and joint pain doesn't usually resolve the way a cut or bruise does. The longer compensation patterns continue, the harder they can be to correct. Early treatment often means: fewer sessions overall, faster recovery, lower risk of chronic issues, better long-term mobility. Prevention is always easier than cure.
