At Brixton Therapy Centre, we have supported the health and wellbeing of our community for more than twenty-five years. Throughout that time, one thing has remained clear: women’s health deserves compassionate, attentive, and holistic care. From painful periods to fertility challenges, hormonal changes, pregnancy and beyond, women often experience complex shifts in their physical and emotional landscape.

Acupuncture offers a gentle, natural way to support these transitions — helping women feel more balanced, resilient and connected to their bodies. Our practitioners are highly trained, fully insured, and experienced in supporting women at every stage of life with safe, effective acupuncture treatments.

Why Acupuncture for Women? A Holistic Approach to Health

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views women’s health as a dynamic interplay of hormones, energy flow, circulation, emotional wellbeing and lifestyle factors. Rather than simply treating symptoms, acupuncture aims to restore balance across the entire system.

Ultra-fine needles are placed gently at specific points on the body to encourage improved circulation, reduced inflammation, better hormonal regulation and calmer nervous-system responses. This can have a powerful effect on a wide range of women’s health concerns, including:

• Menstrual pain and irregular cycles

Acupuncture may help relieve cramps, reduce clotting, ease mood swings, and support more regular cycles. Many women find their periods become more predictable and less disruptive after a course of sessions.

• PMS and PMDD symptoms

Mood swings, irritability, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches and fatigue can all be eased through acupuncture, which helps regulate hormones and support nervous-system balance.

• Hormonal imbalances

Whether symptoms stem from stress, thyroid issues, polycystic ovaries (PCOS) or perimenopause, acupuncture supports the body's natural ability to rebalance and regulate.

• Fertility support

Many women come to Brixton Therapy Centre for acupuncture while trying to conceive naturally or alongside IVF and assisted reproduction. Acupuncture can help support blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulate cycles, reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing.

• Pregnancy care

From morning sickness to anxiety, pelvic discomfort, fatigue or preparation for labour, acupuncture offers gentle, non-invasive support throughout pregnancy. Our practitioners work safely within all recommended guidelines for prenatal care.

• Postnatal recovery

After birth, acupuncture can support healing, nourish depleted energy, stabilise mood, and ease aches and pains that arise from feeding, carrying and caring for a newborn.

• Perimenopause and menopause

Hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, anxiety, brain fog and mood changes may all be helped by acupuncture. Many women find regular sessions provide emotional grounding during this transformational phase.

Women’s health is multifaceted — and acupuncture allows us to treat the whole person, not isolated symptoms.

Women’s Health at Brixton Therapy Centre — Thoughtful, Personalised Care

Women come to us for many reasons, and each receives a thoughtful, tailored approach. Whether you’re facing a specific condition or simply feel “out of balance,” our acupuncturists take time to listen, understand and create a treatment plan unique to your body and your stage of life.

What sets our approach apart:

1. A calm, safe and welcoming environment

Brixton Therapy Centre is known for its gentle atmosphere and longstanding reputation for professionalism. Women often tell us they feel deeply seen and supported here — an experience that can be healing in itself.

2. Experienced practitioners who understand women’s healthcare

Our acupuncturists regularly support women experiencing hormonal changes, reproductive health issues, pregnancy-related conditions, and stress-related imbalance. You’ll always be treated with empathy, care and respect.

3. Holistic support, not a quick fix

We understand that symptoms are often connected: stress affects hormones, hormones affect sleep, sleep affects mood. Acupuncture helps restore balance across these systems rather than masking discomfort.

4. Integration with other therapies

Because Brixton Therapy Centre also offers osteopathy, physiotherapy, massage, women’s health therapies and more, clients benefit from a truly holistic environment. When appropriate, treatments can be combined to offer fuller support.

What a Session Looks Like

Your first appointment begins with a thorough consultation. We’ll talk about your health history, menstrual cycle, lifestyle, stress levels, sleep, digestion, energy and emotional wellbeing. This whole-person approach helps us understand the root patterns contributing to your symptoms.

During the acupuncture itself, ultra-fine sterile needles are placed at points chosen specifically for your needs. Most clients find treatment deeply relaxing — some even drift off to sleep. You may feel a gentle tingling, warmth or heaviness at the needle sites, but treatment should never be painful.

Sessions typically last 45 minutes to an hour, and many women begin to notice changes after a few treatments, though long-standing conditions may require a longer course.

Supporting Women Emotionally as Well as Physically

While acupuncture is often sought for physical symptoms, many women find the emotional benefits just as significant.

Because it calms the nervous system, acupuncture can ease:

  • irritability

  • anxiety

  • low mood

  • sleep disruption

  • the feeling of “running on empty”

Women often leave sessions feeling more grounded, centred and able to cope with life's demands.
