Reflexology

Feeling run-down, stressed, or like your body could do with a real reset? Sometimes the most effective approach is also the gentlest one.

Reflexology is a calm, non-invasive therapy that works with specific pressure points in the feet, each of which is understood to correspond to a different organ, system, or area of the body. By carefully stimulating these points, a reflexologist aims to encourage deep relaxation, support the body's natural balance, and promote a greater sense of overall wellbeing. There are no needles, no manipulation and no need to get undressed. Just focused, considered work through your feet.

What Can Reflexology Help With?

Reflexology is used to support a wide range of physical and emotional concerns. Because it works with the whole body through the feet, its effects can often reach further than you might expect.

  • Stress and anxiety: encourages a deep relaxation response, helping to ease an overactive nervous system
  • Sleep difficulties: may help quieten the mind and body into more restful, settled patterns
  • Tension headaches: stimulating specific reflex points may help reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches
  • Digestive concerns: gentle work on the digestive reflex zones may support comfort and gut function
  • Fatigue and burnout: may help restore a sense of energy and ease that lingering feeling of being depleted
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort: a safe and calming option throughout pregnancy, supporting relaxation and physical comfort
  • General wellbeing: many people simply come because they want to feel more balanced, more settled, and more like themselves

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

  • You'll need to remove your shoes and socks, but you stay fully clothed throughout. Comfortable, loose clothing is ideal.
  • Your appointment starts with a short conversation about your health history, any current concerns, and what you'd like to get from the session.
  • Your therapist will work methodically across the reflex zones of your feet using careful finger and thumb techniques. The pressure is firm but considered.
  • Most people find it deeply relaxing. It's not unusual to drift off during treatment.
  • You may feel pleasantly calm and a little sleepy afterwards. Give yourself a few quiet minutes before heading back into a busy day.

Your Questions Answered

How many sessions will I need?

It varies, and it's hard to say without knowing what you're hoping to address. For stress, sleep, and general relaxation, many people notice a difference after just one or two sessions. For more longstanding or complex concerns, a short regular course tends to bring the best results. Your therapist will talk through a realistic plan with you after your first appointment.

Is reflexology safe during pregnancy?

Yes, it can be a wonderful support during pregnancy, helping with stress, tension, and the general physical demands of carrying a baby. Do mention your pregnancy when you book so your therapist can tailor the session to suit you at your stage.

What does it actually feel like? Is it painful?

For most people it's genuinely enjoyable and deeply relaxing. The pressure is careful and controlled, and while some reflex points may feel a little more sensitive than others, it shouldn't be painful. If anything feels uncomfortable, just let your therapist know and they'll adjust straightaway.

How is reflexology different from a foot massage?

A foot massage works on the muscles and soft tissues of the feet to ease local tension. Reflexology works differently. It uses a detailed map of reflex points across the feet, each linked to a specific organ or system elsewhere in the body. The aim isn't just relaxation in the feet. It's supporting balance and function throughout the whole body, using the feet as the access point.

Should I wait until it gets worse?

We hear this all the time: "It's not that bad yet, I'll see how it goes." The truth? Muscle and joint pain doesn't usually resolve the way a cut or bruise does. The longer compensation patterns continue, the harder they can be to correct. Early treatment often means: fewer sessions overall, faster recovery, lower risk of chronic issues, better long-term mobility. Prevention is always easier than cure.
