How Psychotherapy Can Help

The psychotherapy available is 'psychodynamic' or 'psychoanalytic' psychotherapy. These
two words are often used interchangably by therapists. The 'psyche' is another word of the
mind. The 'dynamic' refers to how the different parts of the mind work together, or against
each other. So a simple way of describing psychodynamic psychotherapy is to say that it is a
type of therapy that works on understanding how the different parts of the mind struggle
against each other and sometimes cause emotional pain and unhappiness.

John also works for The South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in the Lambeth Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service as a Section Manager and Clinical Specialist. He has a private practice in Brixton (SW London) and in Egerton (Nr Ashford, Kent) .

In private practice he has experience helping adults and young people who are struggling in their relationships with others and who may have suffered with trauma, past abuse, depression, anxiety, OCD,  personality difficulties and sexuality.
