Reflexology for Fertility, Pregnancy and Post-Natal Care

Fertility Reflexology can be a very effective treatment for sub-fertility problems and especially with the more common finding of unexplained infertility. there is increasing evidence that sub-fertile women can significantly improve their chances of conception when a method of stress reduction, such as reflexology, is used.

Around one in six couples trying to conceive have problems and it is not uncommon for couples to take two to three years to become pregnant. there are many different causes of infertility. twenty five percent of infertile couples have more than one factor that contributes to their infertility.

There are many reasons why people have trouble conceiving. lifestyle factors can play a part but, more commonly, hormone imbalances are the culprit. reflexology can be used to work on the body's hormone or endocrine system (often the cause of problems conceiving). by focusing on the key reflexes related to areas of imbalance, such as the pituitary (the "master" of all the hormone glands) or the thyroid, a Reflexologist can help the proper functioning of these vital glands and assist the body to achieve optimum health, thus increasing the chances of conception.

Reflexology is a holistic treatment and treats the person as a whole, considering all lifestyle factors. each treatment plan is tailored to the individual with sessions planned for particular times of the month to aid ovulation.

Pregnancy Reflexology

Beneficial effects for pregnant mothers include:

•    helping to alleviate pregnancy related problems including sickness, backache, constipation, heartburn and fluid retention
•    consolidating pregnancies following previous miscarriage
•    reducing labour times
•    encouraging the onset of labour
•    helping the mother return to their pre-pregnancy weight
•    reducing the chances of post natal depression

Reflexology can help to consolidate a pregnancy by calming the body and helping it return to a state of equilibrium.

Reflexology is looked on favorably by gynaecologists and obstetricians with many recommending it; Dr. Gowri Motha, an obstetrician, in her book Gentle Birth Method is a great advocate.

Post-natal Reflexology

Post-natal Reflexology can also be of great benefit in helping a mother adjust to coping with a new baby; supporting the mother as her menstrual cycle returns to normal; assisting the mother returning to her pre-pregnancy weight; and reducing the chances of post natal depression.
