Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage (or champissage) is a simple, non-invasive therapy that works to reduce muscle tension in the shoulders, upper arms, back, neck, scalp & face. It involves the therapist using their hands to knead, rub & squeeze the body’s soft tissues, such as the muscles.

Indian head massage is a delicate treatment massaging pressure points which will leave you perfectly relaxed.

Originating in China in 3,000BC, massage is the oldest & perhaps best known of all complementary & alternative (CAM) therapies. Indian head massage is based on the ancient ayurvedic healing system in India. Ayurvedic medicine is a holistic healing system, which combines natural therapies & encompasses the mind, body & spirit. It strives to restore balance & inner harmony to the mind, body & spirit to improve the health of an individual. Indian head massage was brought to the UK by Narendra Mehta in 1978 following his disappointment that western massage treatments always finished at the neck. The western Indian head massage is a “dry” treatment & does not include the use of oils, however, treatments can be performed dry or with the use of oils depending on the individual. The treatment you will receive is partly based on Mehta’s champissage Indian head massage sequence & a combination of other advanced massage movements specifically designed to be effective on the head & scalp.

Indian head massage & hand reflexology can be combined & are especially effective in treating repetitive strain injury.
